The 6th Annual Jimmy Santiago Baca Writer's Retreat is getting closer every day and we continue to confirm presenters..
The latest addition is a presentation entitled: Dance as Poetry, which will be presented by Davíd Tecciztli Zamora. In this presentation Zamora focus on the idea of dance as poetry through discussion and movement. The class will touch on the history of Aztec dance, the cultural connection of art to everyday life, and the idea of the body as a vessel to relay meaning. There will also be a participation aspect where we will learn a dance to better understand the idea of speaking a language without using words. Through art we can bridge the differences of language and geography to realize that our souls all speak the same language of joy.
Dance as Poetry will be presented on June 20th from 9 am - 10 am.
Davíd was born and raised in Albuquerque NM. He grew up in the Mexica, or Aztec, dance tradition, and has traveled with his family sharing this culture through dance and educational workshops to help bring connection among various cultures throughout the world.
