Denise VanBriggle, K-University literacy professional, National Writing Project teacher-consultant and former director of The Capital Area Writing Project at Penn State, spends most days exploring the power of various expressive arts to act as change agents, perspective shifters, and resilience builders in her own life and the lives of others. She owns a small business specializing in writing and wellness workshops to meet the needs of diverse clients. Denise is a poet, writer, and shamanic practitioner who understands the healing, transformative nature of words that emanate directly from one’s soul. She will present “Finding Common Ground: Writing as Equalizer and Healer” during Session 3.

Denise collaborated with Jimmy Santiago Baca and Kym Sheehan on a teaching tool titled Feeding the Roots of Self-Expression and Freedom (Teachers College Press, 2018). Her poetry and writing appear in The Wildwood Journal (HACC), Tarnhelm (Penn State University), Survive and Thrive (St. Cloud University), and Healing Together (CHI: Community for Holistic Integration, 2020).
